Of course! I find that having them around when say, you're blow drying your hair or cooking it helps them get used to noises. My first, Max, was a bit skiddish with loud noises and we'd keep him in the bathroom with a toy when my mother would dry her hair. He got used to it really quick.
Also, the vet recommended a small radio with white noise or low music while they were sleeping or in their crate, that way they learned not to be distracted or afraid of common sounds.
