Embarassed Lesson given but obviously not learned

Well I have been waiting for this and it finally happened. Nutter our cat and "Grand Dame" of the household finally had her fill. She finally went nuts on Bentley last night instead of running away from him. Now don't worry she is declawed and is not a biter or I would have intervened right away. She actually cornered him and would not let him out. So I stepped in and picked Bentley up. He retreaded down the hall and curled up in his bed looking back the hall where she was standing guard to my bedroom door. He was actually scared of her at that point. I scooped him up and put him on the couch with me and there he stayed the rest of the evening. Thought good lesson learned, he's done chasing the cat.

Fast forward to this morning........NOPE.......went right back to chasing her again. He's a very smart dog but when it comes to that cat he's dumb as dirt.

I've given up on the dream of them being friends and cuddle buddies. I would settle for being able to pass each other in the same room without a scuffle. I can tell he's just playing because he wags his stump the entire time he goes after her. I just wish I could figure how to keep the peace.
