Wifey and I are in the market for another Yorkshire so our little girl Daisy can have a playmate. We've looked at a few litters, but ran into the same problem, and last night took the cake.
We asked the owner to bring the male and female parents - when they arrived and hopped out of the car, I thought I was looking at a beagle or small mutt/Yorkie mix. The parents were HUGE, short wiry, thick fur, very long bodies, mammy dog was enormous with sparse hair (fur) and pappy dog was skittish, very thick wiry fur, was just a big as mammy, they also smelled bad and had fleas. They were a double arm full when I picked them up.
Yet, the "papers" said Yorkshire Terrier? They did slightly resemble the classic Yorkie, but the size blew me away, my guess is they both were pushing 20-25 pounds, and the fur certainly wasn't (Yorkie Hair) it was
fur. It's a good thing we looked at the parents before we turned over our cash!
How people get these dogs categorized at Yorkies is beyond me? To the novice, or newbie Yorkie owner, they would've been burned badly had they bought one of these puppies (and I'm sure someone will).
There should be closer regulation on our breed and "breeders" should be required to send in photos of the sire and dame with the puppies before "official papers" are distributed. Something needs to be done....
That's my rant. It's hard to find a real Yorkie now days - seems everyone is in it for money, just a business to them all they see is dollar signs and could care less about the breed/bloodlines.
The search continues....
