It gets pretty hot here in LA too, not as hot as Arizona, but in the summer time, even when we go out @ 7:30 pm, the ground is still very warm, hot to the touch. I always touch the ground to test it 1st & wait til it cools down, but they don't understand why & keeps barking @ me loll.
Yes, dogs do sweat through their paws but you are exactly right in that its only a short period of time. The most important thing to check for is sweat inside the shoe. Plus, there's always open toe sandals
