I don't think there's a "normal" so to speak. Each dog is different, has a unique personality.
Allie, my female, labored and delivered a pup and never made a sound or panted or anything.....not even when the vet "helped" puppy out. (Puppy didn't make it). All the books told me what to look and listen for, and she was just not a 'typical' laborer.
