I use Home Again and there is no yearly fee - just the one-time fee. Home Again has a yearly re-up to be in their lost pet/accident insurance and other program extras that sounds as if they are charging you to keep it up if you don't read it carefully but it's not actually a charge for the basic service to notify you if your lost dog is scanned. When you pay to have the chip implanted, you pay for that basic service for a lifetime. But you have to be certain that they have your contact information registered - that the vet clinic actually provided it and it is in their system and keep it current when phone numbers, addresses, etc., change. Also, occasionally they can drop information from their database due to computer/network glitches so it doesn't hurt to check it at the beginning of each new season.
