I had my pup done 2 weeks ago, she barely flinched and it took 5 secs. They do it between the shoulder blades and the chip is the size of a grain of rice. My pup is a big baby but she was absolutely fine and running around straight after. She has never had a problem with it since having it done and the peace of mine if she goes missing or is stolen is worth a couple of seconds of discomfort. Hope that helps
