It will be in his system but shouldn't be keeping him 'down'. He should continually be looking better and more alert each time he gets up. After surgeries I always wake mine up every hour for a drink, a bit of food and to go potty, and just to get them up and walking around a little, until they really are acting normal (not so much groggy dog but interested dog).

Also check him... does he feel warm or cold to the touch? Warm is good, if he feels coldish, warm him in your lap and cover him with a blanket. Heat will help process the drugs out of the system.

Note: I am just naturally overcautious...
