Shes had them expressed 2 times this month, about a week apart except for when Shes going today its been a week and a half. The vet wants to do an anal gland infusion (at the price tag of 150$) to see whats going on in there and to pack the glands with antibiotics (another 100$). Ive never heard of this procedure. Im not sure what to think on all this. My poor baby hates the vet and I dont like the idea of them putting Her to sleep for something else because I know the risks. Shes on Blue Buffalo dry Dog food small breed right now and I have no switched Her food. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions or had the anal gland infusion done before?
I've never heard of this either, but it sounds like something kjc recommended (panalog) when Mimi was having anal gland issues. Does she have an infection or abscess? In order for the abscess to heal, it needs to be flushed out & antibiotics put in to prevent further infection...I'm guessing this procedure is called infusion.

Our case was different, Mimi was diagnosed w/anal gland sacculitis, inflammation of the anal glands. So vet recommended laser therapy or anti-inflammatory shot. Mimi was better by the 2nd day, so we didn't do the procedure, but she was very bothered by it.

I would do what the vet recommends, you need to get that abscess to heal b4 it becomes a bigger problem. If you don't feel comfortable, you can also get a 2nd opinion. Maybe you can also try switching foods to a protein source that she's never had. Sometimes anal gland issues can be from food allergy...but some dogs lose all muscle control over expressing on their own, esp if it's been expressed over & over. Hope Mitsy will be ok.
