There were definitely far fewer choices for pets back in the days before Petsmart/PetCo and specialty shops. The pet aisles at major chain stores are very different too.
Pet healthcare has advanced. The pet industry has done studies showing more people consider pets family than ever before. That means more people and companies are developing better products for pets.
