I too think she slept with him one last go 'round to see if she couldn't use her wiles to control him one more time. And he didn't budge or they both would have gone to Cancun - not one dead and one running. I think that's when she finally snapped is when he finally, definitely, probably a little harshly, told her no and she knew he meant it.
