I take Guinness on the bus and train in Boston. YOu should check the website for San Francisco transit.. Boston MBTA says that you have to have a dog in the carrier. I usually don't but started carrying him in gym bag these days!! It is kinda interesting that... I actually got stopped by a bus driver for the first time on Monday about me bringing him on the bus.. and he told me that I cannot bring a dog. I told him that I do this often.. so I got on the bus anyway.. he didn't charge me for his fare though because .. there is MBTA rule says that dogs has to pay for his fare.. I don't remember what the rule here about rush hour.. but i usually bring him on MBTA during rush hours... So depends on the cities I guess..

Good luck!
