I get my recommendations and my meds from my vet--that way you won't give the same active ingredient to your dog twice by accident. I use Revolution (by prescription from my vet). It's a topical, and controls fleas, mites, worms, heartworms, and dog ticks (but not deer ticks). They make it for all different sizes of dogs, and my vet said it was safe for puppies too. The only symptom that Bella had when I applied it to her at 12 weeks (she weighed 3 pounds) was a few hours of drowsiness, and she recovered fine. That said, other posters have reported side effects from Revolution, so if you try it, get only one dose to see how your dog handles it. Also, since it's a topical, you have to be sure that you part the hair between the top shoulders and apply it to the skin so that it is all absorbed.
