Kate,
My Uni is only 6 years old. When she was spayed, I also had my vet remove a bump on her head near her ear. They had it biopsied and it was nothing. But it has come back (tiny though). Later, I found a bump (skin colored) on her left rear foot. Had that biopsied; they said it was nothing again. But, the bump has gotten bigger, and now turned black. Also the spot where they took the biopsy with the needle looks like there is a hole in the skin. I am totally expecting the bump to turn completely black and hard and then fall off like a scab.
Meantime she also has tiny tiny little bumps between her shoulder blades that look like ingrown hairs or blackheads. They never pop. Our vet said if it doesn't change in shape, then don't worry about it. The one on her foot HAS changed though. =/
ETA: If she is spayed, you don't have to really worry about mammary or cervical cancer, in addition to pyometria.
