I prefer line breeding as well. When you have common ancestors with excellent qualities and they were known to produce quality offspring, you are going to concentrate the genes for those characteristics and are more likely to produce puppies with those excellent qualities. However, if the common ancestors were just "okay" in type or possessed some qualities you don't like, then you are just as likely to concentrate the "bad" genes too so you do have to be careful. You also need to feel confident about the health of lines when you choose to line breed.

Inbreeding can set type even faster but, as already stated, it's not something just anyone should attempt
