It really depends on your momma dog. Some people that live close to a vet will leave the momma at home and just take the pups in a small box or basket. If your momma is a calm traveler and you won't be gone a long time then it would be okay to put her and her pups in a box.
Just be careful after the tails are docked because you don't want the momma to started excessively licking the tails and dewclaws.
