Many vets start vaccinations at 6 weeks. I've even read where some give puppy shots starting at 4 weeks.

Maybe he did not have any money because he already spent lots of money. The truth is that there were many things that went unanswered. It is impossible for any of us to say what was wrong with the pup without seeing him. The OP did not mention how the pups stools were. The pup could of been suffering from coccidia. Coccidia can be deadly if left untreated. He mentioned the pup had been sick for several days. What had transpired over those several days? We don't know. I wish we knew more. I pray the little puppy is okay.
It would of been great if the OP had a mentor or someone near by that could of taken the puppy. Sadly, most people when they breed are not prepared for all the things that can go wrong.
