Well, that was an adventure. This is the first time I cut my Yorkie's nails at home. Before the vet always cut them, however, I live a 1/2 hr away and he understood the need to do it home once in a while. She does go nuts so he gave me a mild tranquilizer. He said it is similar to Xanax.
Strangely, she is fine with bathing, brushing, and cleaning her face.
So anyway, I feel bad enough drugging my 8 month old puppy. I waited 25 min so I could see she was a little loopy and slightly uncoordinated. I was careful not to cut the quick. The only person bleeding was me when she bit me once.
I laid her on her side, my bf who she knows well held her down and I cut her nails with the best clippers I could buy. Not guillotine type, but the good ones so there was no splitting.
There was so much howling and crying I feel like Atilla the Hun. I gave her treats afterward and she is sitting happily chewing a bone in her playpen with the door open.
Does this get any better?
