I started with small clips from the baby department at Target. He would rub his head on the ground and take them out. I would put them in his hair, then give him a treat. He'd get a treat or toy every so often as long as the clip stayed in. When he'd rub his head on the ground I'd tell him "no". Once he stopped rubbing his head on the ground he'd get a small treat. He caught on quick. I slowly switched up to larger and larger clips, pins and barrettes. Now he can wear bows in his hair with an alligator clip, scrunchie, or band and he leaves them in as long as he gets his treat after his hair is done.
We also practiced "sit" and "stay" without anything in his hair so I could take pictures. Treats as a reward. Now he's practically a statue when I tell him to stay.
