In addition to brushing, you need a good comb. Jenny (Mimimomo) sells a Madan mustache/leg comb on her site:

I also like the Chris Christensen face and leg buttercomb.
Use it all over the body to prevent tiny tangles or to get them out.
To detangle, I use Pet Silk silk serum. Some people use simple corn starch. You apply it dry to dry hair to give the knot some "slip."
