I sorry for your loss, but two is not a bad idea!!!! It's actually great they have a play mate whose the same age, has the same activity level. I think it's really healthy and great. I had an older 6 year old chihuahua and I purchased another puppy so she could have a friend. Well to make the long story short my older chihuahuas spoiling was so deeply rooted that she wanted nothing to do with the new puppy, she didn't want to be bothered or played with, she didn't want to share her food bowl. The other puppy would cry so I we added a third puppy being a yorkie and they are great for each other. The connection they have is amazing they sleep cuddled up and play literally all day. I think it's better than to wait.
