She ended her heat cycle in the first week of April. I had noticed the neighbors dog hanging around a lot when she was in heat, I chased him off when ever I found him in my back yard, but I am afraid he might have gotten to my girl. While she has always been a mommas girl, she has gotten especially clingy lately, hides under the bed often (she has never done this), her nipples are poking out like crazy, and she is just different. I have an appointment next week for a blood test, but I hear these can be inconclusive. I am not sure if she is pregnant or in a false pregnancy. Is there any way to tell the difference and could a blood test tell the difference? Sorry for rambling so much lol |
You are not rambling. So do you or do you not want this pregnancy? If you do want it; be very frank with your vet about the circumstances of who potentially mated with your dog. untested dog, or unknown parentage. Be frank that if that dog got into your yard,, maybe others did too.... So maybe you actually don't know at all who the father is.
GEt an US done and Xrays when appropriate at day 56 57 58 or so, but how-ever you truly don't know the mating date so that is why an ultrasound shoud be done at an appropriate time frame to determine relative age of pups.
And be prepared for a C section if the pups look too large to go through her birth canal.
On the other hand if you don't want this pregnancy do an emergency spay now.
