Default Life with a puppy mill rescue dog

I recently adopted a little Yorkie who had spent all of his life in a cage. He will be 8 this year so that is a long time to suffer what he did, and it shows. When I first got him 8 weeks ago he wouldn't look me in the eye and would run away if I went near him if he was out of his bed, only seeming to find comfort in his bed, I guess it made him feel more secure. Slowly he has started to trust me, he will come get a treat but I need to put it a little bit away from me before he will come get it. He has also started to sleep in my bedroom recently, before that he stayed in his bed in the living room. But we still have a long way to go and it breaks my heart to see how terrified he is of everything.

It's a long process but every little triumph is so worth it. Now he knows when I bring food out that he is more than likely going to get some, and he does a little twirl beside his bed and wags his tail, it's so cute!

I really hope they can shut down all puppy mills one day soon. I've been guilty in the past of buying from a pet store before but I never realised the horror these dogs go through. I will never go near one again even for pet food
