I think the same way, and after watching the dog whisperer, he explains how males are 'biologically programmed' to mate at least twice a year and if they don't they get frustrated.
This is way I decided to neuter Rufus. I wanted him o be as happy as possible
He was 1 year old when we got him "fixed"
