I've heard that before.
A friend of mine has two labrador mix and the vet told her to spay them before the female goes in heat to avoid mammary cancer.
When I got Nena (she is now almost 5) the vet didn't inform me of that and I didn't know what the benefits were of getting her spayed.
She isn't spayed yet, have to make an appointment around august (right now she is in heat)
