Unlove Luxating patella

I've been away for a long time, but I just wanted some support and I knew you all would understand.

My sweet little Cody started acting strange last week. He was hiding in the kitchen away from me during the day and kind of cowering and shaking. My husband and I took him into the vet that night. After a thorough physical exam, all they found was a grade 3 luxating patella in his right knee and a grade 2-3 in his left.

We were shocked since he has had his physical exams every year and a problem was never noted. Cody is also not showing limping or struggling in any way. But after careful observation over the last week, pain is the only explanation. We had him examined by the ortho surgeon at our practice, got the grading confirmed, and have scheduled the surgery on his right knee for Thursday.

I know a lot of you have been through this and the 6 weeks of crate rest that come afterwards. I'm just sick with worry over my poor little guy. He's on metacam and tramadol now, and is doing much better although he still has sporadic hiding/shaking episodes. And, as I said, the first surgery is already scheduled for this week. I'm just sick over this and wanted some love and support for my little guy from people who really understand. He's not even 2 years old, so I'm hoping the surgery and a well-managed recovery will give him a long healthy and pain-free life. But it's still so heartbreaking in the moment!
