I have had such a difficult experience with kennel cough. Mine had it for a solid 3 months. It was absolutely horrific. He coughed so frequently and the coughing fit always ended in a gagging sound. I was worried sick thinking it could be all sorts of really bad illnesses like collapsed trachea.
Turns out it was just kennel cough because he eventually did get over it, but it took him way longer than normal. He was 9 weeks old when he got it.
The first set of antibiotics sucked. He threw up from it repeatedly. He was then on different antibiotics and I'm not sure if they helped much. I ended up giving him back to my breeder to handle because his coughing was seriously so severe.
She had him on a couple rounds of antibiotics. Its only to stop pneumonia from happening, and it certainly didn't cure him faster. All I can say is to not worry because if you are certain this is kennel cough I would get a round of antibiotics and just ride it out. I wasn't overly worried about the antibiotics, I was more worried about the possibility of pneumonia. Good luck, this will pass! |
