Omg Kennel cough.....what should I do now?Help!

Sunday my precious baby (she's 7 years old)started feeling pretty congested. She had runny nose and watery eyes . So yesterday morning the vet put her on antibiotic of course.....Then once we got home she started coughing ( dry hacking cough, retching and gagging sound)and in the afternoon i called the vet and he said she could have kennel cough and if she was still coughing through the night he will likely have to prescribe a different antibiotic in the morning. I could hear her coughing through the night, poor thing!
The sad thing is she was just recovering from a 30 days round of steroids(she stopped less than a month ago)and now the antibiotic? I've read that sometimes kennel cough has to run its course and it will go away on its own and also that there are many natural remedies( herbal/homeopathy) available to cure it. What's your input on this? Has anyone had a good response without antibiotics? I also thought about giving her some echinacea to strengthen her immune system and help her recover faster. Should I? Is it safe for dogs? Please I need advice! Thank you in advance.
