The grooming table above is a great little helper. You may need an extra pair of hands until he gets a little older and more willing to let you groom him.

I use the Yorkie Splash and Shine products. They have been great for Gracie's silky coat. Isle of Dog has some really nice shampoos for dogs with problem hair. Pet Head is available in some pet stores and it is sulfate free. Supposed to be all natural, too. Bio-Groom is another good brand. The sulfate free shampoos really make a difference in the condition your dog's hair will be in. The sulfates and other chemicals strip the skin and coat badly. You can try to replace what you took out with conditioners but it just isn't the same.

My groomer uses WEN on Gracie when she does her. Her hair is always beautiful shinny and silky for days after she has her spa day. I ordered some for her but haven't used it yet.

I use the Yorkie Sheen detangling spray for daily grooming. It is always good to dampen the hair a little when combing dry hair anyway. I'm pretty sure that all the products I mentioned above have detangling or conditioning sprays available.

Sounds like your little guy has some tangling issues so combing him a couple of times a day would probably help prevent him from getting more mats. I find that bathing and conditioning Gracie once a week keeps the fur silky smooth and it is easier to comb through. Hopefully his hair will improve after he loses his puppy coat.
