We saw my in laws yesterday, we were going to go to their house, but they stopped at our house instead and we gave them the card and apologized for opening it. They told us they have not told anyone yet because their granddaughter, our niece is in finals at vet school and she's struggling a bit so they didn't want her to find out until after finals were over because she'll have it on her mind and be really sad.
They were very sad, heartbroken, but knew it was for the best. Mickey was 14 years old, had arthritis really bad. They had her on meds for a few years and took her off in the fall last year because of liver damage. They were trying to control it through diet and containing her to the bottom floor of the house, no more stairs. It was ok for about 6 months, but they knew it was time to make a decision at this point, she was incontinent now also. They did not want to talk much about it, but it seemed like they were relieved to have someone to talk to about it. We told them their secret is safe with us until they are ready to tell people. She was such a nice, beautiful dog.
Again, RIP Mickey!
