  I think I know kinda what you're talking about.  I think the difficulty may come in finding something that fits my particular window size.  (I went with alot of narrow windows rather than a few wider windows, to coordinate with what I already had in my existing breezeway).  Am I right that she was able to use them as it and didn't have to try to get the wrought iron cut?

I guess there are many varieties of things like this that kind of fit inside the screen to reinforce its strengh and might be easier than building and painting wood ones.  Or probably just a bar or two of aluminum criss-crossed and nailed into place or parallel to each other across the bottom 1/3 of the screen would reinforce it enough to rebuff her if she tried to plunge or claw through.   Only reason I'm not keen on this style is it screws to the windows.  I spent more on the windows/doors than it cost for the whole rest of the room...so I really don't want to drill anything into them. 
I was kind of thinking about something that just pops in the open window and then you'd close the window down on it to keep it in place.  Easy in, easy out, no damage to window or casing.
