Depends on age and potty habits. If they are already potty trained and have no need to be let out during the night to go potty than a be should be fine. If not than a cage would be better. You have to be certain that they are not teething and wont wonder off and chew on thing in the night plus decide to get out of their bed and lay in the pathway and possibly get stepped on.
Sometimes its best to leave a pup in their cage for their own safety plus until they are done with potty training and all the puppy stuff.
