Definitely a crate beside the bed when a puppy, both for safety reasons (you could roll over and squash the puppy, or it could fall off the bed and injure itself) and for potty training reasons (you don't want the puppy peeing in the bed or getting off the bed and peeing on the floor). I would recommend keeping a puppy in a crate at night at least until it's potty trained and can hold it overnight. Or, you could have a pen beside the bed with both sleeping quarters and a potty pad. But sleeping with you in the bed, no, not until it's an adult.
