Diatoms are microscopic sea creatures that make glass protective shells, so to put it rather crudely, diatomaceous earth is basically finely ground glass. It kills parasites by causing internal bleeding. I wouldn't feed it to my Yorkie for fear that it could cause intestinal irritation. If I were using it as a natural insecticide, I'd make sure I wasn't using it anywhere a pet or human could eat or inhale it. |
