We are in Michigan. The kids get hw meds year-round and will forever. We used to be considered a winter-break state. Then vets started seeing hw positive dogs in winter.
This isn't hard to figure out because hw prevention is actually not prevention at all. It kills larva. So it is technically a cure. It is just curing the problem before it actually becomes a problem. Depending on the product used it can take up to three months to kill all the larva stages. So if a dog is bit in October and owner stops hw prevention in November all of the stages have not been eliminated and the dog is wide open.
It should be given year-round everywhere.
