Yorkie barking and crying when we leave apartment, help!!!!!!!!! Hi everyone!
We have a very big issue with our dog! Every time we leave the house she throws a fit! Barking extremely loud, crying, yelping, all kinds of loud noises. We have received numerous complaints from neighbors and even the management office. Have also started receiving warnings from the building of noise complaints and possible eviction! This needs to be fixed ASAP obviously! She is normally well behaved, listens to some commands, goes where she is supposed to go, but this issue just will not go away. She barks when we are home and she hears people in the hall but after we tell her to quite down a couple of times she stops. Here is a list of things we have tried:
1. Giving her a treat before we leave to keep her distracted.
didnt work at all, she would ignore it and eat it later or eat it and start barking
2. Purchased a muzzle.
it doesnt fully shut her mouth, its one of those that has a mesh bottom and is loose enough for her to pant, drink and even eat. did not help, she may not bark as loud but still whines and cries and yelps very loud
3. Purchase a collar that has a little box on bottom that sprays a mist of orange scented whatever it is when she barks.
read its safe for dogs, problem with it is that after getting sprayed a few times she will still sometimes bark and the main problem is that is doesnt always go off. when shes crying or making like a yelp loud sound it doesnt go off so she still continues to make noise.
So we are desperate for ideas!!! she is extremely loud and goes absolutely nuts when we leave her. During the day is one thing but when we leave for work at 7 a.m. obviously it is a major issue. From a quick search online i found two other options, 1 is removing vocal cords which is surgery and obviously sounds harsh and second is shock collar which also sounds pretty bad. Please help with ideas or proven methods. Please dont start preaching how bad shock collars are, i understand their not great and neither is surgery but neither is eviction! We are all for training but i cant imagine how to train a dog when you leave the apt and she is by herself. We are in the Brooklyn, NY area so if someone is suggesting getting a trainer to come to the house and happens to know someone local please provide info!
Thank you soooo much!!! |
