I have always given my bigger dog, Shelby, pig ears. He loves them and has never had a problem with them.

Any chew that sits out after being chewed will have bacteria start to grow on it.

I don't give pig ears to my Yorkie, though, because they can tear off pieces that can be choking hazards. I stick with bully sticks with her (I ziplock and refrigerate what's been chewed afterwards). You can use a knife to scrape/cut off the moistened areas where bacteria will want to grow, also.
