what do you mean for now, a pup should be a long term commitment, like 12 years or more. Free puppies should not just fill in the gap until someone can afford what they want. I know you did not mean it the way it sounded and they OP is probably not even thinking this way, but sadly it happens, puppies grow up to not be as cute as one thought they would be. A free dog is great if you want that breed or type of a dog, but if you don't, that free dog might become a PITA that you have to take care of, groom and feed.
