Jackson just had a dental cleaning, here are his before and afters. You can see that it's not like they were rotten or anything but I thought it was enough to justify a cleaning. I had slacked and stopped brushing for months, and he ended up needing one IMO. Vet said they weren't bad but had some gingivitis starting so it was good I did it when I did as a preventative. No teeth had to be pulled. I just needed a 'fresh start' so that's why I got them professionally cleaned.

I had Oravet applied while he was under and it's kind of like a plaque barrier. The one the vet applied lasted 2 weeks and now I will start doing it once a week here on out. You just rub it along their gums.

I also am using Wysong Dentatreat at the recommendation of my vet. You just sprinkle a bit on their food. I also like to use HealthyMouth, I have the gel though and it's kind of messy (it's green in color) and I don't really like how you apply it (with a q-tip)... I don't do this every day. They also have the kind of stuff you put in their water. I like Petzlife because it's super easy to rub on their teeth and I like the bottle it comes in.

Otherwise, yes brushing is the best! I like CET toothpaste and so did the veterinary dentist specialitst we saw 2 years ago.
