Ok, about the donut. That pork topping is very common in Chinese food. It's basically dried and shredded pork jerky type stuff, a little sweet, a little salty. We usually put it on congee (rice porridge) or inside sweet buns. So it's not that far off from what's traditional, except the bun is probably a bit more sweet.
