When I first got Tibbe and until he was trusted enough not to pee in the bed, I put him in his small plastic-case airline carrier with the little bars for a door and I would stick my fingers through the bars to touch him. He'd fall asleep with his chin on my fingers and eventually, when I was certain he could hold it all night, he came out of the carrier for half a night and then fully out. I had also bought him a doggie stairs and was teaching him to use that to get off the bed so he could get down if he needed to piddle. I had closed the bedroom door so he couldn't get to the rest of the house in case he did jump down and put pee pads around and once or twice at first he did use those but in time he learned to sleep through the night without peeing. I opened the bedroom door, took up the pee pads and he was then fine. But first thing on waking, I would take him outside immediately so he could relieve himself.
