Baring physical issues - medical ones that is. I would try to ramp up my outside time with the dog. He appears to like going outside, well do as a team together lots of outside activities.

Long walks - changing up the route. Go to different environments - like visit a pet store with him. Go to a lake - and hike - stop for a picnic lunch. Being hungry may make him more interested in taking a treat from you.

Get him interested in toys - play games with him.

Once it gets warm enough outside - take your book and a chair and sit and read in the backyard while he is outside.

Enroll in an obedience class ... give him a job to do. You can try to teach him some tricks as well.

Also as well as you are able let him come to you. Get down on his level at times for play and treat sessions.

My boy loves my feet too. Loves to lie on them. It is prime position as far as he is concerned. He usually now hogs this spot from our big dog.

He may never be a social butterfly, but hopefully with your patience and love, he will bloom.
