I used to buy NV raw medallions from a local boutique pet store (all high-quality pet food, not a puppy seller), and occasionally I would get a bag with a little ice or a few of the medallions stuck together. Nothing too horrible, and certainly nothing that would make it necessary to throw the food out.
Then Petco started carrying the food and I had a coupon so I decided to buy it there. I have never seen those issues since I started buying it at Petco. I think they must keep the freezer on a setting that is a little bit cooler. |
I forgot that Petco & Petsmart also carries it!

I never had a problem w/Nature's Variety, we went through several bags of different proteins. We encountered problems w/a CA based product called Small Batch. The bags were all 1 big clump, all stuck together! On our 3rd bag, that's when I noticed the very off brown yucky color & Mimi threw up on it. I knew something was wrong w/it, but also read that an occasional off color was ok, so thought it was ok...but it wasn't in our case.

Like the others have said, take the product back when this happens, this will also encourage the store to try to catch the problem and rotate their inventory better. |
Yup, that last bag we had was bad. I think it's been sitting out, got thawed & spoiled & it was frozen again. The employees in that store knows what happened, so I hope they take better precautionary measures on their raw food.

Sorry If it comes across as a dumb question. I'm new with all this stuff. |
You thaw a day's portion the night b4 in the fridge & serve when thawed right our of the fridge. NEVER microwave or heat it, as it can cook the bones in the food & it will lose the nutritional value. Raw food is excellent for cats, as they require more protein. If you visit the sites like nature's variety or primal, they have step by step instructions on how to feed raw.
Sometimes I 4got to thaw & had to give them something else loll!
