One YT member who is really good with cameras explained that different camera flashes, light sources, and background colors can affect eye shine. This would account for the many pictures I have of my boys with one green/blue eye and one gold eye.
If I take pictures in our great room, which is painted yellow and has a big fluorescent kitchen light, I usually get gold eye shine. Pictures that I take in other parts of the house with blue, tan, or green walls and virtually no light other than the flash, give me green/blue eye shine.
