Question for those who use Nature's Variety Instinct Raw Lacey has been eating this food for over 3 weeks now and absolutely loves it. I purchased the first two bags from 1-800-Petmeds and they arrived and looked fine. Shipping was outrageous though, so I located a couple of stores here locally that sell it. I bought two bags of food from one Thursday (Duck Medallions and Beef Bites). When I opened the bags both had a lot of ice in them and the Duck appeared to be freezer burnt. Neither had expired, but the Duck had an expiration date that was close (5-12-13). The Beef Bites expire 12-26-13. The Bites don't appear to be freezer burnt, but there is quite a bit of ice in the bag. Is this usual when purchasing this food?
I want to continue feeding this food, but I'm a little leary about what is safe based on how these two bags looked. I threw the Duck out as I didn't like what it looked like at all. Is ice in the bag of Beef Bites a problem? I did go to another store Saturday and got a bag of Duck Medallions and they look OK (expiration date 1-16-14). It seems this company uses a year expiration date which seems a long time to avoid freezer burn. |
