Yes, the straps are clipped onto the actual car seat belt. VERY sturdy.
How much do your kiddos weigh? We have a medium in my car and both kiddos are fine in that. Zeus is 6.5# and Thalia is just under 3# but is expected about the same weight. I don't anticipate on getting the large.
