I agree, Kathy. I had to practice with it at first. But when I realized that I could still adjust the ruffle as I pinned it in place, I found that much easier than pulling the threads the old way. When I made costumes, I had to work fast, so I would use dental floss and a very wide zigzag stitch. That worked very well for me too...this was before I got the gathering foot.
I am so envious of your treadle machine.
Both my Mother and MIL had one, but both are long gone now.
