Eye Great news that your baby was able to keep her eye and the surgery was successful. I am sure she is still not feeling good after the anesthetic and that is why she is not eating well. Have you tried her with canned food that is usually more appealing to sick dogs? So sad for her as she is crying, is she on pain meds? Sleeping with the cone is no fun for them either and very confusing. She also may be disturbed that she cannot see well yet?
How I feel for you with the challenging eye drop therapy. It is very hard to keep tabs on the dosing. I had a similar issue with my baby after cataract surgery, he needed the same regimen as yours but also oral meds with similar multi doses. It was so complex that i got some paper with squares ruled on it and made a grid of drug, time of dose, day etc. Every time I gave a med I marked it on the chart. It was a full time job for two of us and we were medicating all day with at most a two hour break per day of peace. The poor dog had a miserable life being constantly medicated wearing the cone. This went on for several weeks with reduced meds as time went on. The cone was on for nearly six weeks as my specialist vet was anal about the recovery regimen. I must say that as Lexi mentioned, there is a psychological price to pay. My dog also really feared my approach as it was usually for meds. He became very anxious and even aggressive when I tried to pick him up, long after the meds were over. It has been a long and tedious recovery. So I feel for you and your baby having to go through this. One can only take one day at a time and success is measured by the days marked off on the med chart. Oh how I longed for it to be over, but the day does come and your baby will get used to the routine. So take heart, this too will pass. Hugs and prayers for a successful recovery. |
