My Chloe did something like this too! We use the potty training puppy apartment and put a washable pee pad on one side and her bed on the other. She would roll around, walk, lie down on her pee pad even if it was used sometimes! She never did go potty on her bed but I know for a fact that sometimes she drops a drip or two of pee once in a while after she goes and has a bit of discharge so I figured maybe her bed has the pee smell which would make it "dirtier" than a freshly cleaned pee pad. Of course, her playpen set up isn't 5ft long.
Here's what we did:
- we scrubbed down everything and threw her bed in the washer after a good soak with an enzyme cleaner
- we changed the layout of her playpen so the potty area of her puppy apartment was furthest away from the activity in the house
- we kept her in her playpen even when we were around to monitor and corrected her when we saw her playing around in the wrong area (she of course hated this at first since she's used to being out of her playpen while we're there but we did this too because she had a bit of separation anxiety)
- we gave her treats in bed if she was lying down on it quietly
- we physically moved her away from the potty area if we knew she had already went and didn't need to go
- every time I changed the pee pad I would scrub a bit of the used one on to the clean one so the clean one gets a bit wet
I suspect a combination of everything we did above worked cuz now she doesn't go there anymore. She's not 90% potty trained tho...haha we're still trying to get there. |
