I am a very quiet and calm person, and my Yorkies have great temperaments, but they are still very active terriers. I want to emphasize this for the OP -- it's not just barking to be concerned about, it's the level of activity that she/he is looking for in a doggie companion.
Generally speaking, Yorkies require a lot of activity, physical exercise.
I think back to that first year with Max - whew! Max has an even temperament, not-hyper at all, but Yorkie puppies are especially energetic.
To the OP, if you decide you want a Yorkie, I highly recommend adopting one that is closer to a year old. My second boy was 8 months old when I brought him home and the bond I have with him is just as strong as the one I have with the boy I brought home at 13 weeks. You can adopt from a rescue or find a really good breeder who held puppies back as show potentials.
Best wishes in your search for the right dog for you.
